A little bit about me
I am a local Maitland girl, the eldest of 6 siblings and attended catholic schools in the area growing up. Family, laughing and chocolate are my favourite things. My husband and I have just celebrated our 14 year wedding anniversary and have 2 beautiful children as well as 2 energetic boarder collies.
My faith is an important part of my life and I am an active member of the Largs Holy Family Parish, assisting with youth group and readings. This close and loving relationship with god guides me through my daily personal and professional life, gifting me with strength, compassion and faith. My values as an individual and as a teacher, align with the Catholic Church and the Catholic School system.
My Education
I have a Bachelor of Education - Primary degree and have proficient NESA accreditation.
Life long learning is important to me and I am in the last semester of a Graduate Certificate of Religious Education online through Australian Catholic University.
Why Teaching?
I have a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people. This is evident throughout my working career, working with at-risk youth and young people with disabilities for 10 years prior to teaching. I have always been around kids my whole life both personally and professionally and would love to be apart of building the next strong, resilient, forward thinking and confident generation. I believe that teaching is one of the most important jobs, which is both challenging and fulfilling. I also think that I’m very suitable for teaching. I am a very driven person, highly organised, patient, hard working and creative. I love to watch children explore and learn. The moment when students achieve something just makes me smile, and I feel blessed that I’m there to be apart of that growth and achievement, no matter how small. This is not a role that I take lightly; it’s an honour, I understand that my actions impact a student’s life far beyond school and I intend on continuing to make this impact both positive and inspiring.

My Teaching Philosophy
It is no secret that we are all different in many ways: personality, ability, culture, learning styles and language are just some of the many examples. It is my belief that all students who are accepted for 'who they are' as well as 'where they are' in their education journey have the ability to learn and achieve to their potential. Knowing the individual is vital to the facilitation of learning. It is important for me to know my students and for them to know that I believe in them, their ability and their dreams and that they are encouraged, supported and appropriately challenged.
School is more then just a place to academically achieve, it is a place to learn, grow and develop socially, spiritually, emotionally, physically and intellectually. I see my role as a facilitator of learning, providing meaningful, relevant and effective lessons constructed from curriculum outcomes. Students are given the opportunity to explore, question, experience, apply, practice and make decisions in order to make connections with their world. I believe that collaborative learning and interaction as well as a positive and safe environment is needed to maximise learning.
Our society is very technology driven and I firmly believe that our classrooms should reflect this. ICT provides students with an engaging, interactive and relevant learning experience, connecting them to the continually changing world around them. Interactive SMART boards, TV's, devices and computers all are important in a 21st century classroom. Software such as apps, relevant social media, and websites such as this one not only provide valuable learning experiences, they also allow for collaboration and interaction between teacher, students, family and the wider community. Positive relationships and collaboration is vital for student learning and development.
