I believe in teaching the curriculum content using a range of different teaching strategies to enhance learning and understanding. An example of this would be in a history lesson I gave students a Gardner’s multiply intelligences grid of activities. We worked through some of the activities as a group and then students were given choice of which independent learning activities to complete that they felt suited their learning style. The option of choosing their own task gave them input into their own learning as well as awareness of how they learn best. Including a variety of different resources and learning activities maximise learning experiences. I have also used BYOD resources to teach angles in maths through QR codes. I created questions and codes using the QR code program and students had to scan the codes and answer the questions while making their way around the room.
Differentiation is necessary for lessons to be effective and I have shown ability in this area through differentiating content and/or providing extra support or extension when required. I believe that I have sound understanding of the academic, individual and social needs of the students in the class that is required for this to be effective.
It is important to not only ensure that the classroom environment is inclusive but that content and teaching strategies are relevant and effective for all students. Throughout my teaching experience, I have demonstrated this through involvement in NAIDOC week, incorporating sign language into spelling activities and also allowing students to answer the role in any language they choose.
