Engage with colleagues and improve practice
PROFICIENT 6.3.2
Contribute to collegial discussions and apply constructive feedback from colleagues to improve professional knowledge and practice.
EVIDENCE
‘Feedback is one of the most powerful influences on learning and achievement’ (Hattie, Timperley, 2007) and it is an area in my Teaching career I do not take lightly. I have demonstrated ability to actively seek advice and feedback from experienced teachers to ensure the teaching standards and practices Im implementing in the classroom are both quality and effective. Feedback allows the opportunity to reflect on my strengths and weaknesses and brainstorm with someone of experience other strategies and ways in which I could improve. Throughout my teaching experience I have found this process extremely valuable, giving me confidence, higher understanding and practical skills. I understand that engaging with other professionals for continued improvement is something that is not only important during professional experience or as a new graduate, it is a career long expectation.
Collaborative working environment
I have been very fortunate to work in a brand new pod classroom this year with 2 other Year 1 teachers. I love working closely with my grade partners and believe that it has so many benefits to enhance learning, student outcomes and allows for greater differentiation. Working so closely with 2 other teachers has been great opportunity to improve my own teaching practice through feedback, observation and discussions. As a team we regularly reflect on our lessons, what the students have achieved, how it can be improved and have live document of things that we would do differently next year. To effectively work as a team and support each other to ensure a smooth and effective running of our pod we have spent a lot of time communicating and setting up agreed practices. Some of these include dividing our responsibilities up equally for the year, we also have a white board where we add to through the week with meeting agenda, concerns jobs and upcoming events. We have agreed to all be in our office for a chat 10 minutes before the day starts so we are all informed of any concerns with students, changes to our timetable or anything else that needs to be discussed. The main thing I have learnt this year working in a pod is that communication, consideration, positivity, hard work and flexibility are all key ingredients to a successful team.

Below is evidence of my ability to seek and apply constructive feedback. The 3 images are taken from some of my professional experience reports, outlining this standard from Nilo public school, St Joseph's and St Aloysius. (to refer to the whole report documents click here)
