Information Communication Technology (ICT)
PROFICIENT 2.6.2
Use effective teaching strategies to integrate ICT into learning and teaching programs to make selected content relevant and meaningful.
EVIDENCE
Technology and digital resources ‘Offer potential depth and variety’ (tait, 2012, p194) to student learning often in ways that generate interest and are interactive and familiar. Classrooms have become more technology friendly with the integration of smart boards, BYOD, iPads, computer labs with a variety of software to enhance both teaching and learning Technology is around us everyday and for students technology is ‘a fully integrated aspect of their lives’ (Klopfer, Osterweil, Groff, Haas. 2009) and our classrooms should reflect this.
The uses of smart boards and now TVs in the classroom as a teaching aid are endless and although should not be used exclusive are ‘becoming an essential component of every classroom’ (Professional learning board, 2015). During my professional experience I got to see first hand how effective both can be and also shown how to use them to their full potential. I use them for daily planning/timetable, the roll, timekeeper, work sheet demonstrations and instructions, displaying data, educational games and activities and you tube for all KLAs.
I have developed skills and implemented these techniques into my lessons daily, using techniques such as the magic pen for handwriting, the timekeeper to keep my lessons on schedule, interactive templates such as sorting, and scanning or using hover cameras for worksheets to display, model and provide instructions. Below is an example of a science lesson plan on ‘materials’ I taught to a S1 year 1 class with an example of how I used the smart board in that lesson providing students with an interactive sorting activity to reinforce the two types of materials. Following this, is evidence of how a used a hover camera to instruct and model both a handwriting and a letter composing task.
Also below evidence of technology integration in various KLA's using resources such as BeeBots in a maths lesson on position, Dash and dot in a science lesson of forces and viral tour of the Sydney opera house in a geography lesson. I also use iPads apps such as green screen, draw and tell, chatter kid, geoboard, coding safari and more.
